In collaboration with Studio Europa Maastricht, we proudly present the first edition of the European Cartoon Award - showcasing the best cartoons created in Europe. We are thrilled to support and honour this vital and truly universal form of journalism. This shortlist of nominees was composed by united efforts of the Cartoon Award’s own preparatory committee and the panel of judges, carefully selected out of hundreds of cartoons submitted.
The European Press Prize is made possible by the following member organisations:

Thanks to our Preparatory Committee, Panel of Judges, Members, Board and Bureau for making this happen. And thanks to all the journalists entering their amazing work, because without the work they do there would be nothing to award.
We are eager to hear your thoughts on Drumscroll.

Each year European Press Prize judges have the power to single out special excellence in European journalism. Like the brave editors defying threats and defending free press in publishing the Snowden files in 2014. In 2016 the judges recognised the weight and brilliance of much of the reporting of Europe’s migrant crisis, and chose the best entries on that subject to receive the Special Award. In 2019 the project Forbidden Stories won the Special Award, for their mission to continue and publish the work of journalists facing threats, prison, or murder.
But, equally, the judges may choose to salute an individual journalist, project, news team or editor for memorable service to quality journalism.
This decision is for the judges alone. No entry forms are required. But journalists are free to write to the bureau suggesting suitable award recipients. The judges will, of course, take such recommendations into account.
